Which is the best hair transplant procedure for me?
You have to consider some aspects and discuss them with your doctor. Two popular and effective methods are FUT and FUE surgery.
FUT (Hair Strip Surgery)
It's a good procedure for patients over 35 years old with high density hair on the back of the scalp. This surgery presents a good opportunity to harvest a great amount of grafts in one session, which leaves a very thin scar (approximately .02 milimeters). This scar is easily covered with your own hair. If you opt for this surgery, keep in mind that it is not recommended to use clippers from number 0 to number 2 on the back of your head after having this type of surgery.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
In this surgery we extract hair follicles one by one. This is a great option if you're under 35 and enjoy using clippers number 1 or 2 on the back of your head and long hair in the front of it. It is a good option, too, if you are concerned about the scar you can get from a FUT surgery or if you know you might develop a keloid scar, then you should consider FUE; however in some cases we can use both procedures with very good results.
I have lost a lot of hair. Am I a candidate for surgery?
We need to take a look at your pictures. If you are a candidate and have lost too much hair, then two or even three procedures can be done. In the first procedure we might do the strip (FUT) to harvest a lot of grafts and in a second procedure we'll do a FUE surgery. This way we avoid losing hair density on the back of your head. Dr. Hernandez will tell you which technique is the best option according to your hair loss.
What's a Combined Procedure?
It combines in only one procedure (one session) two types of surgery: a strip surgery (FUT) and FUE around the strip surgery. We only do it for patients with advanced hair loss. We harvest 5000 to 6000 hair pieces. This procedure starts at around 8 am and ends at around 7 pm. It is also very cost effective considering the amount of hair you get with this one.
